Palm Springs Golf & Beach Resort is located in the Nongsa area, north-eastern side of Batam island. The first nine holes was opened in 1989 under the name Talvas Golf & Country Club which is a premium golf resort in Batam. In 2002, the course was renovated and completed with 27 holes with the name Palm Springs Golf & Beach Resort and designed by Larry Nelson and IMG (International Management Group). The course consists of three course: Palm Course, Resort Course and Island Course. Palm Course measures 3269 meters from the black tee, while Resort Course and Island Course, each measure 3012 meters and 3047 meters. Palm Springs Golf & Beach Resort is open from Monday to Sunday, 06:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The course can be reached in 30 minutes by ferry from Singapore to Batam and 20 minutes from Hang Nadim Airport also 30 minutes drive from city centre, Nagoya.
Palm Springs Golf & Beach Resort has different layout for each course. Resort Course has varied typography with the hills up to 35 meters over the sea level. While Palm Course presents signature green with seaside views across natural forests and Island Course features with series of palm trees and vegetation of Mangroove. Hole 3 par 5 in Palm Course has handicap index 1 which makes the hole become the most difficult hole of all. To conquer this hole required good course management. Obstacles started in tee box with the pond in front of it, OB stakes on the left side, a few bunkers on the left and right of the fairway that is not so wide and sloping. Golfers should drive their first shot straight into fairway, otherwise the problem would be for second hit. When the second shot is well done, then to third shot is easier to navigate directly to the green.
