Indonesian Women Golfers With Myriad Achievements

The number of amateur dan professional Indonesian women golfers can be said not as many other countries. After Lydia Ivana Jaya, there has been none of women golfer who competed in the professional golf tournaments. This is understandable considering golf is not a sport that is cheap and can be accessed by the public.In order to pursue a professional golfer career, golfer must follow various tournaments. Unfortunately, these professional women golf tournaments are rarely held in Indonesia. So, inevitably the professional golfers must join international tournaments that require a lot of money to do so.

In other way, golfers could join a prestigious international tournament is by finding a sponsor. But, the sponsor only acknowledge a potential golfer with a lot of achievement. So, it is not going to work for underachiever golfers. This is a dilemma that often faced by female golfers in Indonesia who want to raise their level and become a professional golfer.

That’s why many Indonesian women golfers preferred to be an amateur player. The opportunity of amateur players to play in domestic golf competition is much greater than the professional players. Some amateur golf competition that was held in Indonesia also has managed to bring new talents of potential female golfers in the future. So, who are they?

Ida Ayu Indira Putri is one of the female junior golfers who incised quite a glorious achievement in her young age. The daughter of Surya Sanjaya and Winduwati began to show her potential since winning a Bronze medal in the PON Riau 2012 event.

Ida Ayu Indira Putri become popular when she won the silver medal in the Women’s Team SEA Games Singapore 2015. Ida Ayu born in Denpasar, Bali, July 12, 1997, she participated in the Ladies Indonesia Open in 2012 along with other talented golfers. In August 2017, Ida Ayu once again competed with other Asian golf players in the SEA Games Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

  1. Agnes Retno Sudjasmin

Agnes Retno Sudjasmin

Agnes Retno Sudjasmin came into the spotlight when she won the gold medal in the PON XVIII Pekanbaru, Riau 2012. In the three days in a row, Agnes managed to score of 211 strokes or 5 under par. Previously, this Indonesian women golfer has also incised achievement in the Faldo Series Asia (FSA) Indonesia event. Agnes, who was 17 years then managed to win the tournament by scoring 141 strokes or 3 under par. In 2012, Agnes also competed along with other talented junior golfers, Ida Ayu Melati Putri and Gianti Mahardika in the Ladies Indonesia Open event held at Palm Hill Golf Club, Sentul.

Gianti Mahardhika

This golfer from South Jakarta is one of the women golfers who are considered very talented and quite potential. Gianti Mahardhika has participated in the Ladies Indonesia Open event along with other Indonesian golfers, Ida Ayu Melati Putri and Agnes Retno Sudjasmin. Gianti Mahardhika became the popular when earning the title of the Best Female Amateur golfer at the 7th Indonesian Golf Tour event organized by Linc Group. Some of the other Gianti’s achievements include Best Gross Overall champion at the Junior Golf Championship of PGI Medco 2011 and ranked fourth at the Singapore Open in 2012.

In addition to these three players, there are still other potential Indonesian women golfers such as Juriah, Ika Woro, Yeyen Safitri and many more. With continuous training, it is not impossible that one day these players can become professional players who make Indonesia’s name worldwide.
