Saujana Golf & Country Club Home of The Malaysia Open
The SGCC golf course is a world class golf course where Malaysia Open competition was held. This golf course was initiated by Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in 1982 and became the top professional golf course in Malaysia. This golf course was expected to attract investors and industrialist. With his vision, the Saujana Golf and Country Club development began in 1983 and established in 1986.
Designed by Ronald Fream, SGCC expands 7024 yards and is only about 17 km from Kuala Lumpur. SGCC located in Saujana Resort Seksyen U2, 40150 Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. This golf course also come together with a clubhouse, luxurious hotel and chalet complex. Formerly known as Golf Resort (M) Sdn Bhd, then it was changed in 1985 as Saujana Resort (M) Berhad as it turned into a public company in the same year.
Consist of Two Types of Golf Courses
Ronald Fream was responsible for designing and turning the oil palm plantation land into an impressive international standard golf course with spectacular views. Saujana Golf and Country Club provide two challenges, The Palm Course and Bunga Raya Course. Both 18 holes par 72 courses are equally challenging and characterized by undulating fairways, bunker, mounds, lakes, ponds and ridges.
The Palm Course
The Palm Course golf course was carved out of the rugged terrain of a former oil palm plantation with curved and daunting layout. You can see bunkers of various sizes, fast tricky greens and palm-lined fairway.
The Palm Course is known as a world class golf course also a challenging course. Sloping greens with dramatic changes in elevation and undulating fairways are the most challenging aspects for professional golfers.
Due to it challenging layout, The Palm Course is known as “The Cobra”. When your shots are inaccurate, you will lose them among the palm-lined fairways. Of all the holes in The Palm Course, the 9 front holes are the most difficult, while the last 9 holes are the easiest. Because of its difficulty, this golf course also named as “the most difficult hole in Malaysia” especially aimed at the second hole at 172-yard par 3.
The Bunga Raya Course
Bunga Raya Course is not the star, but it is quite popular between golfer thanks to its longevity and layout. Bunga Raya Course known as “The Crocodile” due to the wide and undulating fairways, expanses of water and the interspersed of flowery shrubs that give a sense of freshness and freedom.
At a glimpse the golf course that expands 6450 yards (blue tee) and 6819 yards (black tee) looks ordinary and easier. But its look can be deceptive. Bunga Raya Course also offers challenges that many regretted underestimating it.
