Built on the former Hong Fatt Tin Mine, The Mines Resort and Golf Club offers exclusive golf facilities for guests but operated by members. This former mining wasteland was damaged due to dredging activity that lasted nearly 100 years. To stabilize the land and put back vegetation, a golf course was built to rehabilitate the damaged environment as well as a sport facility.

Architect Robert Trent Jones II teamed up with Donald Knott and Gary Linn to transform a damaged former mine into a world-class golf course. Robert Trent Jones succeeded in creating a beautiful golf course including lining the fairways with sand to provide great drainage in rainy season as well as a buffer against polluted soil.

One of Best Golf Courses in Malaysia

The Mines Resort and Golf Club has turned into one of the best and most exclusive golf courses in Malaysia. This course has won prestigious awards including one of the 10 best golf courses in Asia and number two golf courses in Malaysia. The Mines golf course also hosted the Kuala Lumpur Open (Asian Tour) and World Cup of Golf won by Tiger Woods in 1997.

The Mines golf course is an 18 holes par 72 course that stretches along 6,191 meters. This course is 15 km south of Kuala Lumpur and has a golfer friendly layout. The fairway is wide, but golfers still have to encourage short game artistry on grassy roll-offs and tight chipping areas.

The front 9 holes placed through natural forest with occasional water hazards complementing the bunkers. The naturally changes elevation create an unforgettable holes experience. Two stand-out locations are the downhill, short par-4 6th hole with a deep swale on the left and the plunging par-4 9th with a beautiful view in the background.

Don’t be surprised if you get to the second par-3 where golfers have to play across a ravine forest area. You can see the roots of the majestic trees that appear above the ground. The jungle area on the front nine feels in contrast with the last nine where there are many challenging holes along the Mines Resort lake which was formerly the center of a tin mine.

The Mines Golf Course Facility

Across the lake you can see an array of large buildings, including the Palace of the Golden Horses which is close to the par-4 12th. You can find some facilities here such as pro shop, clubhouse and training area. The training area consists of the driving range, chipping range and putting range. Both the forest and lake areas of The Mines Resort and Golf Club designed by Trent Jones always give an impressive presentation with endless challenges.
