How to Perform a Proper Flop Shot Technique?

When you want to get closer to the green area, at least we have to think of three types of the approach shot. The golfer should choose between pitch shot, chip shot or flop shot techniques. They have to choose one of these shots according to the position and condition of the area around the ball. If you encounter an obstacle between the green and the pin, then the flop shot becomes the right choice.

The flop shot produces a ball that goes straight up and then hangs in the air and stops shortly after landing on the ground. Not all golfers can do this shot so it takes a lot of practice and confidence to produce a perfect flop shot. That’s why not all professional golfers often doing this flop shot. They only do it in certain circumstances, or when they can’t perform other types of shot. The perfect flop shot can be done in the following way.

How to Perform Flop Shot

  1. Set up a 60 degree lob wedge or high-wedges club.
  2. Place the ball in the middle of your stance or slightly in front of the sidelines of the foot.
  3. Open the clubface as if you are balancing a glass of water on the surface of the clubface.
  4. Aiming the clubface well right of the target and positioned your feet, waist and shoulders well left in the club.
  5. This position will make the ball straight up to the target.
  6. When practicing a flop shot, you can add a line by placing a golf club point directly to the target. Place one more golf club along the foot line so it looks parallel to the previous golf club.
  7. Focus on doing a full swing in line with your feet and be assured that your swing will deliver the ball straight up to the pin. Hit the ball upwards instead of forward to send the ball towards the pin.

If you are doing the flop shot technique correctly, then you are able to stop the ball right in the destination area. But, there are some things you should look at when doing this shot. The first thing that you have to be really confident when making this shot. If you’re still in doubt, it’s better to do another type of punch to reach your target.

If you do not feel confident with the golf course conditions, it is better to do another type of approach shot to bring the ball closer to the pin.
