The BRI Junio Pondok Indah International Junior Golf Championship 2017 tournament, left some surprises. In a tournament that held for three days, the best Indonesian young golfers, Jonathan Wijono come out as the champion beat more than 15 countries. Jonathan Wijono managed to collect 207 strokes or 9 under par so entitled to achieve the title of “Boys Champion”. This victory completes his collection of achievements after three consecutive years winning gold medals (2015 – 2017).
Meanwhile, Thai golfer Atthaya Tithikul scored 211 strokes or five under par and make her as the Girls Champions. She scored 72, 69 and 70 strokes in a three-day straight game. Playing consistently from day one, Jonathan scored 68 strokes each or under four par on the first day and the third day. While on the second day, The Surabaya’s golfer scored 71 strokes or 1 under par.
Early in the game, Jonathan scored a birdie, boogie, then par and par. But, when playing in the seventh hole, Jonathan’s game gets better leaving his opponent who start playing inconsistently. This confident game trend lasts until the end of the game. Jonathan managed to prove that Indonesian golfers have the same ability with foreign golfers. Yet, to compete in international tournaments still needed more hard efforts and mental readiness.
A Beautiful Birthday Gift For Jonathan Wijono
Jonathan Wijono victory turned out to coincide with his 17th birthday. Not surprisingly, his victory became the most beautiful gift after incised positive results throughout the year 2017. His achievements in Junior Golf Championship 2017 championship is not only a proof of his brilliance. Earlier in the year 2016, Jonathan had won the Junior Championship Golf Championship at Gading Raya Golf. In the same year, Jonathan also won the men’s individual gold medal in PON and Indonesia Amateur Open.
He also managed to carve achievements in Indonesia National Junior Championship, Mizuno – Laguno National Junior Championship in Singapore as well as being the only Indonesian golfer which entered the cut-off in the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship 2016 in Korea. Jonathan’s success in winning the BRI Junio Pondok Indah International Junior Golf Championship 2017 event not only earned him a winning trophy. But also add Jonathan points in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) which is currently ranked 387.
Optimistic Facing the Asian Games 2018
This victory also opens wider opportunities for Jonathan to win gold in the 2018 Asian Games to be held at Pondok Indah Golf Course. As a golfer host, Jonathan will enjoy having the chance to practice on the same golf course more than any other golfer. 2018 Asian Games tournaments in August, not the first time Jonathan join the Indonesian national team in international tournaments. Before, he had joined Indonesian team in the SEA Games, Putra Cup and Nomura Cup. The experience of playing in various international tournaments makes Jonathan becomes optimistic facing in golfers from Thailand, Japan, Korea and China in the upcoming Asian Games.
